Jed York is the split signal. Google Trends rank 1 and X rank 6 sit next to a weekly google search series that is still 0.0. For the X board alone, see the X Twitter Trending Topics API.
Two get_top_trends calls cover the snapshot: type X (Twitter) Trending for topic strings and type Google Trends for rising queries, each counting as one request against the monthly quota on the August 25, 2026 pull, with both feeds needing limit 50 plus offset 50 because default 25 hides ranks 26 through 100.

Join on shortened tokens, not hashtag punctuation. "Jed York" on X rank 6 and "jed york" on Google rank 1 are a join. "#SpaceX" on X rank 51 is not a Google Trends row in the first 100; Falcon 9 at X rank 35 is the search follow-up (index 28.0 on 2026-08-22). Offset details for feeds that page past 50 live on get_top_trends offset and limit.
Default limit 25 on X (Twitter) Trending would have stopped at Shedeur at rank 24 and dropped Supreme Court at 26, SCOTUS at 39, Target at 49, and #SpaceX at 51, which is enough to mis-label those tokens as Google-only when they already sat on X after page one.
Supreme Court is the clean miss. Google Trends listed the mail-ballot ruling at rank 37, past default 25. X listed Supreme Court at rank 26 and SCOTUS at rank 39. google search sat at 25.0 on 2026-08-22, down 10.71% over 7 days from 28.0 and down 41.86% over 30 days from 43.0. Two limit 25 calls would have reported the court story as Trends-only. It was on both boards after paging.
Durk needs paging on the Google side. X rank 21 is inside default 25. Google rank 78 (lil durk) appeared only on the offset 50 page. google search sat at 22.0, up 120.0% over 7 days from 10.0 and up 144.44% over 30 days from 9.0. For the Trends board alone, see the Google Trends trending now API.
Growth follow-ups on the same pull used 261 weekly points ending 2026-08-22 for search and news, and reddit used 26 points ending 2026-08-24, so Canada can rise on Reddit while the weekly search index falls, and those are different units rather than a single demand series.
canada google search sat at 41.0, down 12.77% over 7 days from 47.0 and down 16.33% over 30 days from 49.0. google news for keyword canada sat at 33.0, down 21.43% over 7 days from 42.0, yet up 230.0% over 30 days from 10.0. reddit sat at 94.0 with volume 344, up 239.35% over 7 days from 27.7 / 179. Keyword canada tariffs on google news sat at 53.0, up 165.0% over 7 days from 20.0 and up 657.14% over 30 days from 7.0. The live X row is the country token; the tariff series is a tighter news query.
WNBA sat at X rank 2 with no Google Trends row in 100. google search sat at 40.0, down 14.89% over 7 days from 47.0, yet up 21.21% over 30 days from 33.0. youtube sat at 69.0, down 31.0% over 7 days from 100.0, up 16.95% over 30 days from 59.0. A missing Trends row is not missing demand. Cross-check Google News vs Google Trends when a country or court token also has a headline board.
X-only names in the first 12 were Canada, WNBA, Good Tuesday, Enes, Browns, Watson, Jeffries, Lake America, #WWERaw, Kushner, and For the Lord, while Google-only names in the first 12 were cyberleek, bitcoin price, the chicken recall, shelley fabares, the Tucson remains query, target costume, sean grayson, michael wright, the Fromm recall, hawk fire, and blueberry recall.
cyberleek at Google rank 2 had no X row in 100. google search sat at 37.0 on 2026-08-22 against a 0.0 baseline, with a low-quality warning. Quote 37.0. bitcoin price at Google rank 3 had google search 26.0, up 36.84% over 7 days from 19.0 and up 8.33% over 30 days from 24.0. shelley fabares at Google rank 5 was Wikipedia Trending rank 1 and was absent from X top 100.
Enes at X rank 4 mapped to Wikipedia Trending rank 2 as Enes Kanter Freedom, with no Google Trends row in 100. google search for Enes Kanter sat at 7.0, down 73.08% over 7 days from 26.0, yet up 600.0% over 30 days from 1.0. youtube sat at 9.0, down 64.0% over 7 days from 25.0. wikipedia growth returned no_data for both Enes Kanter and Enes Kanter Freedom. Natasha Cloud followed the same pattern: X 16, Wikipedia 11, google search 4.0, wikipedia growth no_data.
Exact string equals under-count related rows, and weekly keyword series lag the live boards, so Jed York can lead Google Trends while google search is still 0.0, and Canada on X is not the same series as canada tariffs on google news.
Hashtags do not join to Google Trends queries. #WWERaw at X rank 10, #SpaceX at 51, #TuesdayVibes at 45, and #PutThatInYourPipe at 38 had no matching Google Trends strings in 100. Falcon 9 at X rank 35 is the readable follow-up for the SpaceX cluster (search 28.0, down 9.68% over 7 days from 31.0 and down 36.36% over 30 days from 44.0). Target versus target costume is a brand-level join, not a string equals; the costume query sat at search index 1.0, flat over 7D and 30D.
wikipedia growth returned no_data for Jed York, Enes Kanter, Enes Kanter Freedom, and Natasha Cloud even though those titles sat on Wikipedia Trending in the same scan. The live Wikipedia board and the wikipedia keyword series are separate calls. Do not treat a no_data growth response as proof the article is unviewed.
