Golden Axe began as a Sega System 16 beat-em-up in 1989, with Ax Battler, Tyris Flare, and Gilius Thunderhead fighting Death Adder, and Paramount+ is now adapting that trio as a 10-episode adult animated comedy dated September 16 2026. The series adds a novice adventurer named Hampton Squib. Deadline on August 20 2026 listed Matthew Rhys as Gilius, Danny Pudi as Squib, Lisa Gilroy as Tyris, Liam McIntyre as Ax Battler, and Carl Tart as Chronos Evil Lait. Mike McMahan (Star Trek: Lower Decks, Solar Opposites) and Joe Chandler co-created the series; Chandler is showrunner. Titmouse animates. CBS Eye Animation Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Original Film produce, with Sega executives Haruki Satomi, Shuji Utsumi, and Toru Nakahara among the credited producers.
