About egg recall
The July 2026 spike tracks a multistate Salmonella Enteritidis outbreak linked to shell eggs. CDC's July 24 2026 investigation update reports 98 illnesses, 26 hospitalizations among 72 people with available data, and 0 deaths, with illness onsets from November 21 2025 to June 30 2026 across 17 states. Of 44 people interviewed, 40 (91%) reported eating shell eggs. FDA traceback identified Midwest Poultry Services, L.P. as a common source for some cases. On July 22 2026 the firm recalled 1,589,577 dozen white shell eggs and brown cage-free shell eggs produced in Texas, with sell-by or best-by dates from July 20 2026 through August 17 2026. Distribution included Kroger stores in Texas and Louisiana and Brookshire Grocery locations in Texas, Oklahoma, Arkansas, Louisiana, New Mexico, and Mississippi. People search the phrase to check carton codes, store lists, and outbreak counts, not as a brand name.
What the time series shows
The curve is a long quiet baseline punctuated by recall spikes, then a new high. First nonzero reading is 1 on September 18 2021. A 2022 cluster climbs to 33 on April 9, 57 on April 16, and 26 on April 23 before falling back. Later spikes include 39 on September 14 2024, 57 on December 28 2024, 79 on January 25 2025, and 57 on June 14 2025. Through early July 2026 the series sits near 2 to 4. July 18 is still 2. July 25 jumps to 100, which is also the series peak. Derived labels from the series: growth exploding, speed exponential, seasonality low, volatility high. Growth is exploding because 30-day change is +3233.33% and 90-day change is +2400.0%, both well above the exploding thresholds. Speed is exponential because the latest 30-day absolute move (3 → 100, abs 97) is far larger than the prior 30-day move (4 → 3, abs 1). Seasonality is low: event spikes, not a weekly cycle. Volatility is high because week-over-week percent changes swing hard around those spikes. Whether 100 holds depends on later recall news weeks not yet in the series.
