A TikTok search vs TikTok Trending Searches comparison on Trends MCP is two different tools. Source tiktok on get_growth or get_time_series returns a 0-100 hashtag-volume series, with absolute volume when the pipeline has it. Type TikTok Trending Searches on get_top_trends returns ranked typed queries and takes no keyword. From the September 16, 2026 board (as_of 2026-09-16T06:01:43 UTC), rank 1 was Wifedat TikTok Videos, and that string returned HTTP 404 no_data on source tiktok even after shortening to wifedat. nfl sat off the board and still printed index 100.0 and volume 351,495,811. country GB is a 400. Mixing the two strings is a 400.
The September 16, 2026 searches board is the split that still matters next month: live rank is a list of typed headlines, while source tiktok is a short daily hashtag series that often has no row for those headlines. Wifedat is the other direction. Source tiktok missed both the headline and the shortened token. Source google search for Wifedat closed at 37.0 on 2026-09-12 from 10.0 on 2026-09-05 (+270.0% 7D). 30D printed 999999.0 from 0.0, and the handler set data_quality to low with a warning that more than 90 percent of the series is zero. Quote 37.0. Do not put 999999.0 in a model.
iphone on source tiktok flapped inside this run. The first get_growth call with 7D and 30D returned 56.9 / 67,066,686 on 2026-09-13, 30 points, +561.63% over 7D. A later omit-window call returned HTTP 404 no_data. A third call with the short windows succeeded again on the same numbers. get_time_series for iphone on tiktok returned HTTP 404. roblox did the same flap: first get_growth printed 89.2 / 269,549,127, then get_time_series and a retry both 404ed. Treat a miss as a miss. Keep the first successful row, and do not invent a volume for rank 1.

A 7D percent of +2172.73% is a climb off 4.4, not a claim that volume grew twenty-one times. Volume grew 155.23% in that week.
get_time_series for iPhone 18 Pro Max on google search returned 261 weekly rows from 2021-09-18 (index 0) to 2026-09-12 (index 100). There is no volume field on those points. Grain is weekly over about five years. The first 1 printed on 2024-09-14. The late ramp was 14 on 2026-08-15, 24 on 2026-09-05, 100 on 2026-09-12. That ramp is why Google Search 7D is a real percent for the rank-10 phrase while source tiktok still 404s on the same string.
get_top_trends with type tiktok returned HTTP 400, error invalid_request, message Unknown type 'tiktok', plus 24 valid feed labels that include TikTok Trending Hashtags, TikTok Trending Hashtags by Category, and TikTok Trending Searches. type tiktok search returned the same 400. get_growth with source TikTok Trending Searches and keyword wifedat returned HTTP 400, error invalid_source, message 'tiktok trending searches' is not a valid source., plus 16 valid sources: google search, google images, google news, google shopping, youtube, wikipedia, tiktok, reddit, amazon, news sentiment, news volume, app downloads, app rankings, steam, npm, python, all. The handler lowercased the rejected source. It did not map it to tiktok.
The inverse fold exists on the feed name. type tiktok trending searches on get_top_trends returned HTTP 200 and echoed type TikTok Trending Searches, with the same omitted-limit snapshot as the canonical label and as_of_ts 2026-09-16T06:01:43.579589+00:00. REST mode top_trends with lowercase type tiktok trending searches and limit 3 repeated that alias. llms.txt still describes feed labels as case-sensitive and matching exactly. The live handler accepted this lowercase TikTok string on September 16, 2026. Prefer the canonical TikTok Trending Searches spelling in stored configs. Do not treat the alias as a second feed.
get_time_series on tiktok, google search returned invalid_source too, with 16 names and no all. Multi-source strings belong on get_growth only.
country GB with limit 5 on TikTok Trending Searches returned HTTP 400, error invalid_request, message country is only supported for: Google Trends, Google Trends by Category, TikTok Trending Hashtags, TikTok Trending Hashtags by Category, X (Twitter) Trending, YouTube Trending. The hashtag board accepts a country code. The searches board does not. Omit country on this type. Pass GB only on the listed feeds.
REST omitting type is a different 400. POST https://api.trendsmcp.ai/api with mode get_top_trends and limit 5, no type, returned HTTP 200 with envelope statusCode 400, error invalid_request, message The 'type' parameter is required, then a 24-name list that includes TikTok Trending Searches. llms.txt still names that miss missing_parameter. Read statusCode inside the JSON, not only the HTTP line.
Omit percent_growth on nfl and both MCP and REST returned error growth_calculation_failed with message No growth window could be calculated. REST still used HTTP 200 with envelope statusCode 400. The inner row was period 12M, error date_out_of_range, data_start 2026-08-15, data_end 2026-09-13. Docs still present 12M as the default. That default needs a year of points. This source did not have them on this pull. The working set on this grain is the short daily windows: 7D, 1W, 14D, 30D, 1M.
A comma-separated iphone call in this run returned sources_successful 1 and failed_sources ["tiktok"] while Google Search 30D printed +58.73% (63.0 to 100.0) on 2026-09-12 with estimated volume 22,900,000.
