Reddit Hot Posts rank_change climbers via get_top_trends

Pass sort rank_change and a window on get_top_trends to list Reddit Hot Posts climbers versus a prior snapshot, then compare 1d, 3d, 7d, 14d, and 30d counts from one Trends MCP account.

Live data as of 2026-08-29

Reddit Hot Posts rank_change on Trends MCP is get_top_trends with type Reddit Hot Posts, sort rank_change, and a window such as 1d. From the August 29, 2026 pull, the board stamped 2026-08-29T00:01:41 UTC. The 1d window used baseline 2026-08-28T00:01:38 UTC and returned count 2: both rows were the title meirl, at rank 8 (prev_rank 22, rank_change 14) and rank 12 (prev_rank 22, rank_change 10). Windows 3d and 7d returned count 0 with a complete-turnover note. Default sort rank filled 25 titles at limit 50, then count 0 at offset 25. Rank 1 was It's a bittersweet wholesomeness, absent from every climber list. Free tier access is 100 requests per month.

Duplicate meirl rows were the only 1d climbers

From the Trends MCP scan of August 29, 2026, Reddit Hot Posts sort rank_change stamped 2026-08-29T00:01:41 UTC and filled 2 climber rows on window 1d against baseline 2026-08-28T00:01:38 UTC. Both keywords were meirl. Rank 8 listed prev_rank 22 and rank_change 14. Rank 12 listed prev_rank 22 and rank_change 10. One baseline slot produced two current rows because the live board already carried the same title twice.

Default sort rank on that stamp returned 25 titles at limit 50, then count 0 at offset 25. Rank 1 was It's a bittersweet wholesomeness. Rank 2 was A simple couple with an extraordinary legacy. Rank 3 was Watched The Odyssey in IMAX, as Nolan intended. Rank 8 was meirl. Rank 11 was the Nepal flood house post. Rank 12 was meirl again. Rank 13 was Bernie Sanders to Introduce Bill Banning Flock Surveillance Cameras. Rank 14 was the Dolly Parton County Kerry pub story. None of those unique headlines appeared on the 1d climber list.

Offset 25 on the 1d climber call then returned count 0 with a held-or-fell note. That note is the empty-page message after a 2-row set, not a second page of movers. The Reddit Hot Posts API hub still describes an August 3, 2026 scan with a Mark Hamill headline at rank 1. This pull closed at 25 with a different rank 1. Length 25 held. The leaderboard did not.

Longer Hot Posts windows did not list more climbers

On this stamp a longer lookback did not add movers. Window 3d used baseline 2026-08-26T00:01:34 UTC and returned count 0 with a complete-turnover note: no title appeared in both snapshots. Window 7d used baseline 2026-08-22T00:01:36 UTC and returned the same complete-turnover note. Unique front-page headlines from those days were gone. Recycled generic titles were not.

Window 14d used baseline 2026-08-14T20:01:41 UTC, a 20:01 clock rather than the 00:01 Hot Posts cadence on 1d, and still returned count 2. Both rows were meirl again: rank 8, prev_rank 23, rank_change 15, then rank 12, prev_rank 23, rank_change 11. Window 30d used baseline 2026-07-29T22:01:40 UTC, a 22:01 clock, and returned count 2: rank 8, prev_rank 15, rank_change 7, then rank 12, prev_rank 15, rank_change 3. The identity of the climber list did not change. The prev_rank did.

WindowBaseline stamp (UTC)CountNote or identity
1d2026-08-28T00:01:382meirl at ranks 8 and 12, prev_rank 22
3d2026-08-26T00:01:340complete turnover
7d2026-08-22T00:01:360complete turnover
14d2026-08-14T20:01:412meirl, prev_rank 23
30d2026-07-29T22:01:402meirl, prev_rank 15

Read the count field. A 7d call can be empty while a 1d call lists two rows of the same string. The get_top_trends pagination page already recorded that this feed stops at 25 on current rank. rank_change on that 25-row board can stop at 2.

World News held or fell on the same 00:01 stamp

Reddit World News used the same as_of 2026-08-29T00:01:41 UTC and the same 1d baseline 2026-08-28T00:01:38 UTC, then returned count 0 with a held-or-fell note. Window 3d on World News also returned held-or-fell, not complete turnover. Window 7d on World News used baseline 2026-08-22T00:01:36 UTC and then did return complete turnover. Two Reddit feeds, one timestamp, three different empty-list stories.

Default sort rank on World News filled 25 headlines. Rank 1 was the r/WorldNews live thread for Russian Invasion of Ukraine Day 1647. Rank 2 was the United States and Israel launch attack on Iran discussion thread. Persistent thread titles can sit on the board without climbing. Hot Posts 3d emptied by complete turnover. World News 3d emptied because every overlapping title held or fell. The note text is the durable signal, not the window label.

Wikipedia Trending 1d on a later stamp, 2026-08-29T08:01:29 UTC versus baseline 2026-08-28T02:01:40 UTC, filled 28 climbers after paging: 25 at offset 0, then 3 at offset 25, then a held-or-fell note at offset 50. Rank 21 Grand Theft Auto VI listed prev_rank 157 and rank_change 136. Rank 25 Nepal listed prev_rank 66 and rank_change 41. The Nepal flood house sat at Hot Posts rank 11 on the 00:01 board and never entered that 1d climber list. Same-day Wikipedia heat is not a Hot Posts rank_change row.

Steam Most Played on that 08:01 stamp is also a 25-row current-rank board. Window 1d still returned 7 distinct climbers, led by Apex Legends at rank 4, prev_rank 14, rank_change 10. Counter-Strike 2 held rank 1 and was absent from the climber list. A 25-row cap does not force a 2-row duplicate-title climber feed. Reddit Hot Posts did that because titles collide.

Exact rank_change call for a 25-row board

The board call needs no keyword. sort rank_change switches the payload from a two-item rank-and-title array to objects with rank, keyword, prev_rank, and rank_change. window is required to pick the baseline. Default window is 30d if omitted.

On this pull the second call still returned count 25. Raising limit to 50 did not invent ranks 26 through 50. get_top_trends is billed per feed type and per page. One rank_change call is one request, separate from a default sort rank call. Free covers 100 requests per month. Starter is $19 for 1,000. Extra percent_growth windows inside one get_growth call still count as a single request.

MCP clients send the same type string Reddit Hot Posts. REST uses mode get_top_trends. The string is case-sensitive. Close labels such as Reddit Hot fail.

Search follow-ups lagged the live Hot Posts titles

source reddit on get_growth is a subreddit subscriber series, not a post-title series. Keyword meirl (no r/ prefix) on August 28, 2026 printed recent_value 32.8 and recent_volume 1,174 against 26 daily points from 2026-08-01 through 2026-08-28. The 7D window compared 32.8 / 1,174 versus 39.2 / 1,282: index -16.33%, volume -8.42%. The 14D window compared 32.8 / 1,174 versus 11.6 / 814: index +182.76%, volume +44.23%. The 30D window compared 32.8 / 1,174 versus 15.9 / 887: index +106.29%, volume +32.36%. Preset 3M returned date_out_of_range because the series starts on 2026-08-01.

google search for meirl used a weekly series of 260 points with recent_date 2026-08-22. Value 27.0 versus 20.0 on 7D (+35.0%), 25.0 on 14D (+8.0%), 20.0 on 30D (+35.0%), and 19.0 on 3M (+42.11%). The live Hot Posts climber was a recycled title. The subreddit index fell over 7 days while Google Search for the same string rose. Quote both.

The Odyssey at Hot Posts rank 3 sat on a falling Google Search series: 19.0 versus 26.0 on 7D (-26.92%), 41.0 on 14D (-53.66%), and 100.0 on 30D (-81.0%), then 7.0 on 3M (+171.43%). A front-page IMAX post is not a 30-day search peak. Dolly Parton at rank 14 printed Google Search 1.0 versus 1.0 on both 7D and 30D. Bernie Sanders at rank 13 printed 12.0 versus 13.0 on 7D (-7.69%) and 14.0 on 30D (-14.29%). Nepal printed 14.0 versus 17.0 on 7D (-17.65%) and 20.0 on 30D (-30.0%) even as Wikipedia 1d later that morning listed Nepal at rank 25, prev_rank 66, rank_change 41.

Live Hot Posts rank is a title on a 25-row board. rank_change is overlap versus a named baseline. get_growth is a different object. The Wikipedia Trending rank_change page is the sibling for a feed that fills 28 climbers on a 1d window. The Reddit Hot Posts versus Wikipedia comparison stays useful when the two boards share a topic and the climber lists do not.

Common questions

Rows become objects with rank, keyword, prev_rank, and rank_change when climbers exist. On August 29, 2026 the 1d window stamped 2026-08-29T00:01:41 UTC against baseline 2026-08-28T00:01:38 UTC and returned count 2. Both rows were the title meirl: rank 8, prev_rank 22, rank_change 14, then rank 12, prev_rank 22, rank_change 10. Rank 1 It's a bittersweet wholesomeness was not on that list.
Not on this stamp. Hot Posts 1d returned 2 climbers, 3d returned 0, 7d returned 0, 14d returned 2, and 30d returned 2. The 3d and 7d calls used a complete-turnover note. The 14d and 30d lists were still both meirl rows. Read the count field. Do not assume a 7d lookback lists more movers than 1d.
Default sort rank on this stamp filled 25 titles at limit 50, then count 0 at offset 25. Rank 8 and rank 12 were both meirl. Limit 25 is the board length here, not a page of a longer feed. The [get_top_trends pagination](https://www.trendsmcp.ai/get-top-trends-pagination) page recorded the same 25-row cap on an August 25, 2026 scan.
get_top_trends is counted per feed type and per page. One Reddit Hot Posts call with sort rank_change is one request, separate from a default sort rank call. Free covers 100 requests per month. Starter is $19 for 1,000. Extra percent_growth windows inside one get_growth call still count as a single request.
