Google Search interest versus Reddit community volume

Pass source google search for a weekly Google Search interest series, or source reddit for a daily community series with a volume field. Same string, different grain, different close dates, and a 12M default that only one side can compute.

Live data as of 2026-10-09

Source google search on get_growth and get_time_series returns a weekly 0-100 Google Search interest series for one phrase. Source reddit returns a daily 0-100 community series with a volume field for one subreddit name. Both pulls on October 9, 2026 used the same string askreddit. Google Search closed 29.0 on 2026-10-03 across 261 weekly points from 2021-10-09. Reddit closed 63.9 / 11438 on 2026-10-08 across 27 daily points from 2026-09-10. The 7D window moved in opposite directions: Google Search minus 27.5 percent from 40.0, Reddit plus 24.32 percent from 51.4. Omitting percent_growth defaults to 12M on both. Google Search computed it. Reddit returned HTTP 400 growth_calculation_failed. The live boards use type Google Trends and type Reddit Hot Posts, not those source strings.

askreddit 7D signs split across the two sources

The October 9, 2026 pull is the split that still matters next month: the two sources do not share grain or close date, then disagree on 7D direction. get_time_series for askreddit on source google search returned 261 weekly points from 2021-10-09 (value 90) through 2026-10-03 (value 29). Peak 100 sat on 2021-12-25 and again on 2022-01-01. No row carried a volume key. The series field is source google search.

get_time_series for askreddit on source reddit returned 27 daily points from 2026-09-10 (value 16.7, volume 6756) through 2026-10-08 (value 63.9, volume 11438). Peak 100 sat on 2026-09-17 at volume 15017. There was no 2026-09-23 row and no 2026-09-27 row. On 2026-09-11 the index printed 0.0 while volume stayed 5095. The 0-100 column is not a rescaled volume. The series field is datatype reddit. llms.txt still describes about 5 years of weekly history. This source, on this pull, was a 27-day daily strip.

Growth windows on that keyword line up by preset name and split by calendar. Google Search 7D matched 1W: 29.0 from 40.0, minus 27.5 percent, recent_date 2026-10-03, baseline 2026-09-26. 14D matched 2W: 29.0 from 30.0, minus 3.33 percent. 30D matched 1M: 29.0 from 25.0, plus 16.0 percent. 3M was minus 12.12 percent from 33.0. 12M was minus 35.56 percent from 45.0. YTD was minus 45.28 percent from 53.0 on 2026-01-03. Reddit 7D matched 1W: 63.9 from 51.4, plus 24.32 percent, volume 11438 from 10197 (volume_growth plus 12.17 percent), recent_date 2026-10-08. 14D matched 2W: minus 20.92 percent from 80.8, volume minus 12.79 percent from 13116. 30D matched 1M: plus 282.63 percent from 16.7, volume plus 69.3 percent from 6756. 3M, 12M, and YTD each returned date_out_of_range with data_start 2026-09-10 and data_end 2026-10-08. Quote both the index and the volume move. Do not treat 282.63 percent as a subscriber census.

worldnews and chatgpt closed on 2026-10-07 on Reddit, one day behind askreddit. Community series can lag each other. tesla closed 43.0 on Google Search with estimated volume 6460000.0 (series volume 6458635 on 2026-10-03, peak 100 / 15020080 on 2025-03-15) and returned HTTP 404 no_data on source reddit. A brand string that works as a Google Search phrase is not a community name.

Source names case-fold. Google Search on get_growth for askreddit returned the same 12M row as the lowercase label. Reddit matched the lowercase 7D row. Feed labels do not belong here. Source Google Trends returned HTTP 400 invalid_source, message 'google trends' is not a valid source., and listed 16 keyword sources plus all. Source Reddit Hot Posts did the same, echoed as 'reddit hot posts'. The handler lowercased the rejected type string. It did not map it to source google search or source reddit.

Comma growth weights Reddit volume alone

Google Search volume is present on some keywords and missing on others. askreddit printed none. tesla printed estimated volume. When volume is estimated, get_growth flags it: volume_available true, volume_estimated true, volume_growth null, omitted-reason volume is derived from the trend value for this source, not an independent measurement. Quote the series integer when the exact count matters.

Reddit askreddit 7D printed real volume on every successful window. Index plus 24.32 percent. Volume plus 12.17 percent. Those are two numbers.

{"mode": "get_growth", "source": "google search, reddit", "keyword": "askreddit", "percent_growth": ["7D", "30D", "12M"]}

That comma call on October 9, 2026 returned sources_successful 2. trend_analysis printed uptrend_count 1, downtrend_count 1, and uptrend_ratio 1/2. volume_weighted_growth was 12.17 with has_volume_data true, sources_with_volume 1, weight_coverage 1/2 sources, and total_volume 11438.0. The only weighted row was Reddit, at 100 percent of that volume, using Reddit 7D volume_growth 12.17. Google Search 7D minus 27.5 percent never entered. Reddit index plus 24.32 percent never entered either. The mixer used volume_growth, not the 0-100 index.

The 30D slice of a separate comma call printed a different blend. uptrend_ratio 2/2. volume_weighted_growth was 69.3, again weight_coverage 1/2 sources and total_volume 11438.0. That 69.3 is Reddit 30D volume_growth. Reddit 30D index plus 282.63 percent stayed out. Google Search 30D plus 16.0 percent stayed out. Reddit 12M in the three-window comma call still returned date_out_of_range. Google Search 12M minus 35.56 percent computed fine. Read source_results and weight_coverage before charting volume_weighted_growth as a two-platform number.

get_time_series rejects the comma. Source google search, reddit returned HTTP 400 invalid_source and listed 16 keyword sources with no all. One source per series call. Two sources belong on get-growth.

Reddit strips r/; Google Search keeps the prefix

Keyword format is the durable split. Source reddit wants a community name. llms.txt says no r/ prefix. On this pull the prefix still folded. Keyword r/askreddit echoed search_term askreddit and matched the plain 7D and 30D rows: 63.9 from 51.4, plus 24.32 percent, volume 11438 from 10197. Keyword AskReddit folded the same way. Store the lowercase name in configs. Do not treat title case as a join key.

Google Search treats the string as a search phrase. Keyword r/askreddit echoed search_term r/askreddit and closed 39.0 on 2026-10-03, 7D minus 18.75 percent from 48.0, 12M flat 0.0 percent from 39.0, 261 points. Plain askreddit closed 29.0, 7D minus 27.5 percent, 12M minus 35.56 percent. Those are two Google Search series. Keyword AskReddit echoed search_term AskReddit and matched the lowercase 12M row: 29.0 from 45.0, minus 35.56 percent.

A leading hash is a third series, or a miss. Keyword #askreddit on Google Search closed 0.0, 7D flat, 12M flat, 261 points, with data_quality low and a warning that the underlying signal is over 90 percent zero values. Keyword #askreddit on Reddit returned HTTP 404 no_data. Reddit does not strip the hash the way it strips r/. If the intent is the community, send askreddit. If the intent is the hashed spelling people type into Google, send #askreddit and expect a near-zero Google Search curve.

A live Hot Posts title is not a community. Rank 1 on type Reddit Hot Posts on this pull was a title that began After being homeless for 1,5 year. That full title returned HTTP 404 no_data on source reddit. Rank is a title list. It is not a community-volume sort. Title follow-up lives on source reddit vs type Reddit Hot Posts. Community windows live on the reddit subreddit growth API.

Call source google search without pasting Reddit Hot Posts as a type

Two strings, two tools. REST uses mode get_growth or get_top_trends. MCP uses the matching tool names. Google Search history lives on the Google search data page. Keyword Google Search versus the live Google Trends board is Google Search vs Google Trends.

The MCP equivalents are get_growth(keyword="askreddit", source="google search, reddit", percent_growth=["7D", "30D"]), get_time_series(keyword="askreddit", source="google search"), get_time_series(keyword="askreddit", source="reddit"), get_top_trends(type="Google Trends"), and get_top_trends(type="Reddit Hot Posts"). REST 1W matched 7D on Google Search askreddit. REST 1M matched 30D. The same aliases matched on Reddit.

Omitting limit on type Google Trends returned limit 25, count 25, offset 0, and as_of_ts 2026-10-09T06:01:44.371917+00:00. Rank 1 was hurricane isaias. Rank 2 was gypsy rose. Rank 3 was world space week 2026. Those rows are search phrases. They are not community names. Omitting limit on type Reddit Hot Posts returned the same stamp, limit 25, count 25, offset 0. Rank 1 was the homeless-apartment title above. Rank is live post order, not a sort of the 2026-10-08 Reddit index.

REST type google search (the keyword source string, lowercase) returned HTTP 200, echoed type Google Trends, and matched hurricane isaias at rank 1. llms.txt still describes feed labels as case-sensitive. The live handler accepted that lowercase string on October 9, 2026. Prefer the canonical spelling in stored configs.

get_top_trends with type reddit returned HTTP 400, error invalid_request, message Unknown type 'reddit', plus 24 valid feed labels that include Google Trends and Reddit Hot Posts. Source reddit is not a feed type. Type Google Trends is not a growth source. Type google search is the trap: it aliases the live board instead of erroring.

REST omitting type is a different 400. POST https://api.trendsmcp.ai/api with mode get_top_trends and limit 5, no type, returned HTTP 200 with envelope statusCode 400, error invalid_request, message The 'type' parameter is required, then the same 24-name list. llms.txt still names that miss missing_parameter. Read statusCode inside the JSON, not only the HTTP line.

get_top_trends MCP pricing is 1 credit per 10 requested rows, max 10 credits per call. REST counts 1 request per call. Free boards still cap at the top 10. The 25-row pulls on this page are the paid default, which is also what the handler returns when limit is omitted on a paid key. Keyword follow-up stays on source google search or source reddit. The live boards stay on their type strings.

Common questions

No. Source google search on get_growth or get_time_series returns a weekly 0-100 Google Search interest series. Source reddit returns a daily 0-100 community series with a volume field. On 2026-10-09, askreddit closed 29.0 on Google Search (261 weekly points through 2026-10-03) versus 63.9 / 11438 on Reddit (27 daily points through 2026-10-08).
The default window is 12M. Google Search askreddit held 261 weekly points, so the omit call returned 29.0 from 45.0, minus 35.56 percent. Reddit askreddit held 27 daily points from 2026-09-10 through 2026-10-08, so 12M returned date_out_of_range and the omit call surfaced HTTP 400 growth_calculation_failed. Pass 7D, 14D, or 30D on Reddit.
Reddit strips r/askreddit to askreddit and matches the plain 7D row (63.9 from 51.4, plus 24.32 percent, volume 11438 from 10197). Google Search keeps the prefix, so r/askreddit closed 39.0 (7D minus 18.75 percent from 48.0) while plain askreddit closed 29.0. Title-case AskReddit folded on Reddit and matched the lowercase 12M row on Google Search.
No. get_time_series on source google search, reddit returned HTTP 400 invalid_source and listed 16 keyword sources with no all. Comma-separated sources belong on get_growth. The google search, reddit askreddit growth call on 2026-10-09 returned sources_successful 2, then weighted Reddit volume alone.
get_growth bills one request per source plus keyword, with extra percent_growth windows included, so a two-source comma string is two units. get_time_series bills one request per source plus keyword. get_top_trends on MCP costs 1 credit per 10 requested rows, max 10 credits per call, while REST counts 1 request per call.
