Pick the TikTok MCP server by the object the agent must return. Trends MCP is first for live public boards (TikTok Trending Hashtags, TikTok Trending Searches) and for get_growth with source tiktok on the same key as Google Search. HasData is the hosted scrape path: four tools, 10 credits per successful call, public handle to videos to comments. TikTok for Business MCP is the official ads stack, about 400 tools on the flat URL and about 40 on the layered URL, behind TikTok Ads OAuth. Virlo is creator, sound, and niche research on prepaid credits. @thenavidm/tiktok-mcp-cli is the free own-account publisher. None of those five replace the others.

Which TikTok MCP server should an agent install first?

Install Trends MCP first when the next turn is a public hashtag or search board, or a growth series that must sit next to Google. That is the job the product actually wins. It is not the best TikTok MCP as a whole. HasData still wins a public @handle. TikTok for Business MCP still wins campaign tools. Virlo still wins lookup_creator. The CLI still wins posting to an owned account.

A competing roundup published 11 October 2026 ranked scrape and transcript servers and treated CreatorCrawl as the trend pick. That page did not list Trends MCP, Virlo, TikTok Ads MCP, or the own-account CLI. It also printed HasData's host as https://mcp.hasdata.com/mcp?apis=tiktok. HasData's own MCP page on 13 October 2026 prints https://mcp.hasdata.com/api/mcp?apis=tiktok. The missing /api path is enough to make a pasted block miss the four tools.

The table is the switch, not a trophy list.

Cursor JSON for Trends MCP lives on the TikTok trends in Cursor page. The host guide is Trends MCP for Cursor. The board contract is the TikTok trending hashtags API.

What each TikTok MCP server actually returns

Trends MCP exposes three tools. get_top_trends needs a type and no keyword. The TikTok boards that appear on both the homepage live-feed table and llms.txt (last updated 13 October 2026) are TikTok Trending Hashtags and TikTok Trending Searches. llms.txt also lists TikTok Trending Hashtags by Category, which requires a category string. The homepage live-feed table printed 20 rows on this run and omitted that category board; the homepage playground dropdown still listed it. Do not flatten those two inventories into one count.

Default limit is 25, max 200. Free plan boards return the top 10 only. offset is pinned to 0 on Free. sort rank_change with a window such as 7d returns climbers when a baseline snapshot exists. History uses source tiktok, lowercase. Sending the board type string into get_growth is invalid_source. REST history mode is get_time_series. MCP still names that tool get_time_series (alias get_trends).

HasData's four tools, named on hasdata.com/mcp/tiktok (accessed 13 October 2026), are hasdata_tiktok_profile_getTikTokProfile (required handle), hasdata_tiktok_posts_getTikTokPosts (handle, optional nextPageToken), hasdata_tiktok_search_getTikTokSearch (required keyword), and hasdata_tiktok_comments_getTikTokComments (required videoId). Each successful call costs 10 credits. Failed calls are not billed. The page states there is no TikTok developer account in that flow. The sample profile payload on that page is a signed-out public scrape, not a trend board.

TikTok for Business MCP is a different object. The help article "About TikTok for Business MCP Server" (last updated August 2026, accessed 13 October 2026) publishes two hosts: https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_mcp/tt-ads-mcp-flat (about 400 tools at connect time, recommended for Claude) and https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_mcp/tt-ads-mcp-layer (about 40 core tools first). Authorization is a TikTok for Business account, not a Trends MCP key. The same article describes campaign, reporting, audience, and creative tools. It does not describe hashtag leaderboards.

Virlo's MCP docs (dev.virlo.ai/docs/mcp, accessed 13 October 2026) price search_hashtags and get_hashtag_performance at $0.05, get_trending_videos / get_trends / get_trends_digest / get_emerging_trends at $0.25, and lookup_creator at $0.50 (up to $1.75 with add-ons). lookup_hashtag starts at $0.50. Connecting and re-reading results are free. Recurring niche monitors bill $0.50 per run until paused. That is creator intel, not a public get_top_trends board.

The CLI is honest about the official API. navid.me (accessed 13 October 2026) states TikTok's official API only sees the connected account. There is no endpoint for anyone else's profile, videos, comments, hashtags, or search. Nine tools read. Five write. post_video, post_photos, and revoke_access ask first. Drafts go to the TikTok inbox. TIKTOK_READ_ONLY=1 hides every write.

How the Cursor install JSON differs

Cursor wants a remote HTTP server in ~/.cursor/mcp.json (Windows: %USERPROFILE%\.cursor\mcp.json). The field names are not interchangeable across vendors. Paste the block that matches the job, then fully quit Cursor.

Trends MCP, from llms.txt on 13 October 2026:

"trends-mcp": {
  "url": "https://api.trendsmcp.ai/mcp",
  "transport": "http",
  "headers": {
    "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
  }
}

The homepage copy-config on the same day omitted transport and the Bearer prefix:

{"mcpServers": {"trends-mcp": {"url": "https://api.trendsmcp.ai/mcp","headers": {"Authorization": "YOUR_API_KEY"}}}}

Docs say the Bearer prefix is optional and the bare key works. transport is the field the homepage still drops. Claude.ai Connectors use the www host /mcp path with OAuth and no key. Do not paste that www URL into Cursor.

HasData, from hasdata.com/mcp/tiktok on 13 October 2026. No transport field. Header name is x-api-key, not Authorization:

"hasdata-tiktok": {
  "url": "https://mcp.hasdata.com/api/mcp?apis=tiktok",
  "headers": { "x-api-key": "YOUR_API_KEY" }
}

Virlo, from dev.virlo.ai/docs/mcp on 13 October 2026. Docs text says transport is streamable HTTP. The Cursor snippet still omits a transport key. Keys start with virlo_tkn_:

"virlo": {
  "url": "https://dev.virlo.ai/api/mcp/mcp",
  "headers": {
    "Authorization": "Bearer YOUR_API_KEY"
  }
}

TikTok Ads MCP is URL plus OAuth, no vendor API key in the JSON. Use tt-ads-mcp-flat or tt-ads-mcp-layer under https://business-api.tiktok.com/open_mcp/. The help article is the source for those two paths. The portal "how to connect" page returned a loading shell in this fetch, so this post does not invent a Cursor snippet for it.

The CLI is not a URL. navid.me requires Node 22 or newer, a TikTok developer app, Login Kit, Redirect URI http://127.0.0.1:8481/callback/ with the trailing slash, then npx -y @thenavidm/tiktok-mcp-cli login. tiktok-cli install writes each app's block. Sandbox mode skips review for accounts added to that app.

A project .cursor/mcp.json can ship a placeholder. A live token in git is a leak.

What each TikTok MCP server costs

Trends MCP public prices on llms.txt (last updated 13 October 2026): Free $0 / 100 requests per month, no credit card; Starter $19 / 1,000; Pro $49 / 5,000; Business $199 / 25,000. Annual billing saves 20% in that markdown. The HTML pricing FAQ on the same day said one successful API or MCP call equals one request. The same day's docs and llms.txt said MCP get_top_trends costs 1 credit per 10 requested rows (max 10 credits per call) while REST is 1 request per POST. Do not flatten those two counting rules. Free boards lag 24 hours. History depth by plan: Free 90 days, Starter 1 year, Pro 2+ years, Business the full archive. Keyword alerts: Starter 10, Pro 50, Business 250. HTML pricing heading printed "30+" sources. The pricing FAQ and the homepage FAQ printed "40+". The homepage hero printed "35+". Quote the page, not a merged count.

HasData credits are shared across MCP and scraper APIs. hasdata.com/prices (accessed 13 October 2026) printed Free $0 / 1,000 credits, Startup $49/mo, Basic $99/mo, Growth $208/mo. The TikTok MCP page used Startup at $49/mo for 200,000 credits and Basic at $99/mo for 1,000,000. hasdata.com/apis/tiktok-scraper-api on the same day printed Startup at $59 / month monthly and $49.17 / month equivalent on annual ($590 billed yearly). Cite both. TikTok MCP calls cost 10 credits, so the 1,000-credit Free plan covers up to 100 successful TikTok tool calls. Unused credits roll into the next period on that pricing FAQ. Concurrency: 1 on Free, 5 on Startup, 15 on Basic.

Virlo MCP draws a prepaid API balance, 1 credit = $0.01, separate from the virlo.ai web-app plans. The MCP page says start around $10 on the marketing MCP URL. Failed calls are free. A trend_scout prompt is documented at about $0.90 to $1.25. Recurring monitors keep billing until paused or deleted.

TikTok Ads MCP does not publish a per-tool MCP price on the help article. The cost is whatever the connected ads account already pays TikTok. There is no Trends MCP key in that path.

The CLI is MIT. navid.me says TikTok's API is free too. Token counts measured 5 October 2026 in Claude Code 2.1.286: 5,400 tokens per message if every tool loads, 720 with Claude Code's tool search. That is model-token cost, not a vendor SKU.

Why scrape, ads, and posting servers are not substitutes

A prompt that only says "TikTok MCP" will pick whichever tool name the model saw last. Name the server. Trends MCP returns an index and a board with as_of_ts. HasData returns follower and play counts from a public page fetched at call time. Virlo returns creator and sound objects priced per tool. Ads MCP returns campaign objects. The CLI returns the connected account's posts.

Cross-platform is the reason Trends MCP sits next to a TikTok-only vendor. get_growth with source tiktok, google search, youtube is one request per source plus keyword. HasData can add YouTube and Instagram on the same key by changing the apis= query string. That still is scrape JSON, not a 0-100 Google Search series. Virlo covers TikTok, Instagram, and YouTube Shorts inside its own credit table. It does not speak Trends MCP type strings.

Two boards, then one growth call, is the cheap proving sequence on Trends MCP. Paging both boards at limit 200, then growth on ten names, then a web search "to confirm," is how a Free 100-request month dies. Ask with "using TrendsMCP" so the client routes to the index instead of Creative Center.

Keep Virlo in mcp.json when the brief names a handle, a sound ID, or a weekly niche monitor. Keep HasData when the brief is comments under a video. Keep Ads MCP when the brief is spend. Keep the CLI when the brief is "publish this MP4." Keep Trends MCP when the brief is "is this only TikTok, or also Google."

Creative Center remains the free official UI for a human click. Agent should not screenshot it when a board tool is attached.

FAQ

What is the best TikTok MCP server for Cursor?

Trends MCP, if Cursor Agent needs live hashtag or search boards and can add Google on the same key. Paste the llms.txt JSON (url, transport http, Authorization Bearer). HasData wins if the next tool must be a public profile. Virlo wins if the next tool is lookup_creator. The CLI wins if the next tool is post_video. TikTok Ads MCP wins if the next tool is a campaign.

Does Trends MCP scrape TikTok comments or lookup a creator?

No. Three tools: time series, growth, top trends. There is no comments tool and no lookup_creator. HasData scrapes comments. Virlo looks up creators. Asking Agent to invent follower counts is how the turn goes wrong.

Do any of these need a TikTok developer app?

HasData and Trends MCP say no TikTok developer key for the public reads they document. TikTok Ads MCP signs in with a TikTok for Business account. The CLI requires a developer app, Login Kit, and, for publishing, the Content Posting API plus a verified domain. Until TikTok audits that app, navid.me says every post goes up as private.

How is MCP get_top_trends billed on Trends MCP?

llms.txt and the HTML docs on 13 October 2026: 1 credit per 10 requested rows, max 10 credits per call, on MCP. REST is 1 request per POST. The HTML pricing FAQ on the same day said one successful call equals one request. Quote both rules until the pages agree.

Can one MCP server cover ads, posting, and public trends?

Not in this set. Ads MCP does not return TikTok Trending Hashtags. The CLI cannot see anyone else's hashtags. Trends MCP cannot publish. HasData cannot run a campaign. Install two servers and tell Agent which product to call.
