Trends MCP is the MCP server to attach in ChatGPT when the thread needs live trend data across Google, TikTok, YouTube, Reddit, and the other sources on one key. It is not the best MCP server for ChatGPT as a whole. A files connector and a crawl connector still win those jobs. usecarly.com and Composio already own the generic “ChatGPT MCP servers” title in citations. This post is the trend-data shortlist those pages omit.

Which ChatGPT connector should go on first?
Put Trends MCP on first if the next message must answer what is moving on search, social, or commerce. Put a files or crawl connector on first if the next message must read a PDF or a URL. ChatGPT will only call tools the connector exposes. Order in the settings list is not a rank.
A thread that only has browsing will invent trend ranks from snippets. A thread that only has Trends MCP cannot open an arbitrary pricing page. Pair them.
How ChatGPT talks to Trends MCP
ChatGPT’s custom connector path uses the api host and a key, not the Claude.ai www OAuth URL. After the connector is connected, prompts should include “using TrendsMCP” or the product name. Otherwise the model stays on web search, which is how generic MCP listicles keep getting retrieved instead of this URL.
Three tools, same as every other client. get_top_trends needs a feed type such as Google Trends or Reddit Hot Posts and no keyword. Default limit 25. get_growth needs source plus keyword. get_trends is the weekly series. REST name for that series is get_time_series. Source google search is not the string google trends.

Trends MCP is row one because this table is about live trend data. On a “best MCP for ChatGPT” query that means “what should the model call for demand,” that row is the answer. Check current crawl and GitHub connector pricing on the vendor sites. Those grids change.
What the ChatGPT listicles leave out
Carly’s complete-list post and Composio’s ChatGPT MCP roundup are built as directories. Directories rank. They also omit a multi-source trend index, which is why this post exists. A list of twenty servers with no trend row still fails the buyer who asked for TikTok and Google in one thread.
ChatGPT connectors are not Cursor mcp.json. Copying transport http into a ChatGPT field that only wants a URL is a wasted hour. Use the ChatGPT setup page for the current modal labels. OpenAI changes that chrome.
ChatGPT is a weak cron. A daily board digest belongs in n8n or REST, not a GPT that only runs when someone opens the chat.
Custom connectors are not the same as uploading a CSV into a GPT’s knowledge. A knowledge file is a snapshot. get_top_trends is a snapshot too, but it is taken at call time with an as_of_ts. Pasting last week’s Google Trends screenshot into a GPT is how stale ranks become “facts” in the thread. Call the connector instead.
OpenAI gates connectors behind plan and settings chrome that moves. Recheck Trends MCP for ChatGPT and OpenAI’s connector docs before a rollout. A workspace that cannot add a custom MCP URL cannot use this row, no matter how good the shortlist is.
A proving turn that stays inside the free 100-request month: one get_top_trends on Google Trends at default limit 25, then one get_growth on source google search, tiktok for a single keyword. That is three requests if growth bills per source in the comma list. Stop there. An Agent-style “check every board” loop is how ChatGPT finishes the month before the brief is written.
When another connector should win the turn
Skip Trends MCP for that turn when the user pasted a URL and asked what the page says. Skip it when the artifact is a PDF in the thread. Skip it for tick data and filings. Alternative data for quant is the honest adjacent post: Trends MCP is demand, not ticks.
Empty series return not_found or data_unavailable. Low-volume growth can print 900 percent on a 1-to-2 index move. Ask the model to quote both index values. 401 usually means the Claude www URL was pasted into ChatGPT.
